Sustainabilty Showcase - IZIP Hybrid Bicycles.
Sustainabilty Showcase - JBHS tee shirt bags.
Another crafty event at the Sustainability Showcase, featured our friends from John Burroughs High School, demonstrating how to turn an old [or new] tee shirt into a nifty bag suitable for books, groceries, or ??? You may remember these bags from an earlier post. This was a big hit, all available tee shirts became bags and were given out to lucky recipients. So if you see these fashion accessories out and about town, you'll know where they came from!

Burbank Reads 2009 promotional PSA
As the saying goes, better late than never, right? Hadn't had a chance to get this year's promotional PSA posted onto this blog. Our thanks to the talented City Public Information Office staff for another well done promo for the library.

What a Day today!
What a busy day in the neighborhood today at our Sustainability Showcase!
We had a crowd of some 677 people stop on by to check out the various green groups offering information, handouts, food and fun. And another 87 children enjoyed watching our screenings of The Lorax while munching on organic popcorn.
Quite a day, and the library thanks the many people who stopped on by (we hope you enjoyed the Showcase), participated as representatives of various green groups and organizations and the many volunteers who helped us make the day possible.
When available we'll get some photos from the event posted for all to see.

Burbank Kids Have Some Great Green Ideas!
We are growing “Truffula Trees” in the Burbank Children’s Libraries. (Truffula Trees are whimsical and colorful trees found in the book The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.) Throughout the time of Burbank Reads, we are asking children for their suggestions on how we can help the environment. Each child receives a leaf to write down his or her idea, then we combine the leaves to make beautiful trees. Here are some ideas so far (#5 is a kid favorite that causes many giggles)…
1. You can take a bike to school or walk.
2. Read books instead of television because T.V. wastes energy.
3. I turn off the tap when I brush my teeth.
4. Don’t trash Burbank.
5. Don’t flush the toilet.
It’s not too late to contribute ideas! Bring your kids to the library, and have them participate in this fun project. You can also read The Lorax while you’re here.
Lastly, we will be showing the movie version of The Lorax at our Sustainability Showcase this Saturday at BV. There will be viewings at 1, 2, and 3 pm. The movie runs 30 minutes. There will also be free popcorn and prizes for kids.
