NEVERMORE… We had an engaged crowd of 147 for "Nevermore," the Big Read kickoff starring Duffy Hudson as Edgar Allan Poe. Brittany Vaughn from The Boys and Girls Club of Burbank and East San Fernando Valley introduced the audience to the Big Read concept, and told them about the B&G Club-sponsored activities to follow in October, while I filled them in on the library-centered ones, including our Poe movie screenings and the Teen Writing Contest (ghost, horror or supernatural story, 1500 words or less, due Oct. 31). The first 100 attendees received a copy of Nevermore, the Poe text being used for the Big Read, and many of them followed along in it as Duffy performed The Tell-Tale Heart, The Raven, and Annabel Lee.

The Big Read - coming in October.
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -Only this, and nothing more.'
hhhhmmm, I do wonder what could The Boys and Girls Club of Burbank and Greater East Valley and the Burbank Public Library have chosen to read for The BIG READ in October???
